Recommendation Sunday! Wheeeeee.

Time for part two of the three part Recommendation Sunday series on the marvelous Scott Westerfeld. Today I will discuss the Midnighters trilogy.

[description from B&N]

A few nights after Jessica Day arrives in Bixby, Oklahoma, she wakes up at midnight to find the entire world frozen, except for her and a few others who call themselves 'midnighters'. Dark things haunt this midnight hour – dark things with a mysterious interest in Jessica. The question is why.

The Secret Hour is a compelling tale of dark secrets, midnight romance, eerie creatures, courage, destiny, and unexpected peril.

This is my second favorite Westerfeld series, but it's a close second. This is also a really smart series with an original concept. I mean, how many books have you read where there's a 25th hour in the day filled with evil creatures and only a few people could access the secret hour to elminate the evil creatures and save the town? There's a lot of thought put into the darklings and how they can be eliminated, and there's a lot of thought about the characters' powers and how they each work and what the pros and cons of each are. And....that's about all I really have to say that makes sense. I guess I could add that the characters are awesome too, but that doesn't add much.

Just trust me, this is one great series. It's written by Scott Westerfeld, so of course it's great.

  2. Interesting. The premise sounds a bit like Tom's Midnight Garden... only darker.

  3. I ADORED this series. I devoured the trilogy in a series of two days and fell completely in love with them. There may be plenty of better books out there, but this series is enjoyable all the way to the end. Great recommendation and I hope many read this series. :)
