Question

Does anyone else love read the marketing plans on the back of ARCs? Because if I happen to get an ARC, the marketing plan is the first thing I read.

I don't know why I enjoy this so much. Maybe it's because usually I don't ever come across half the stuff on the marketing plans.

But one thing I will have to find is this [from the Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler ARC]:

"Aggressive Promotion on ww.lb-teens.com"

Am I the only one who gets a mental image of someone who works at Little, Brown going around to teens, getting right up in their face, and yelling something like "READ THIS BOOK NOW!"

I mean, what do they mean by"aggressive"? Would someone like to tell me?

  1. I don't have much experience with ARCs, but I do like to read the backs. It gives you so much insight into the marketing ploys!

  2. That's too funny!

I used to work in the marketing department of a book distributor so I did get to see the marketing plans for books.

I think they just mean that they will be using that site frequently to get the word out about the book.

    Did you enjoy the book?

  6. hahah it does sound like that! how funny. but yeah, i guess it just means promoting it a TON on that site. I love reading the marketing plans too though. It's cool to see the differences in what they do for books.

  8. I love reading them, too! Actually, as soon as I get an ARC in mail, I flip it over and read the marketing plans. I find them interesting, for some reason.

Also, I saw that whole aggressive promotion on my ARC Twenty Boy Summer and thought the exact same thing. lol

  10. Yeah I like reading the marketing plans as well. :)

I think it means that they'll be promoting it a lot--y'know sending ARC's to tons of YA reviewers, making ad's, and just getting the book out there.

  11. Oh, fabulous post! I always read the marketing plans, too. Sometimes the stuff the list seems a little odd and random. :)
