There are some book-related things that I just do not like. Here are some of them:
- Eyeless girl covers. You know, the ones that look like the majority of Maureen Johnson's covers? Like the one over on the right. Why can't these poor girls have eyes? They need to see too.
- "Pom squad."
- Use of the actual phrase "omg." Like, when "omg" is literally written out in a book. Do not want.
- Saying that guys are "Abercrombie model hot." That reminds me way too much of this Hank video:
- Sparkly vampires.
- Mean girls that come in groups of three. Why three? I don't get it.
- When there is so much made up slang that I need a glossary to figure out what it all means.
- Mentions of Zac Efron. Some people- Liv- enjoy these. I do not.
- The fact that no one has read a David Levithan book! Seriously. What is WRONG with you people?
- The fact that there has yet to be a "ctrl+f" feature made for books. How am I supposed to find quotes for my English essays?
that is quite funny. sparkle hee hee
ReplyDeletei agree i need a ctrl F feature too. guh!!
Good points! Funny video, too.
ReplyDeleteYes to the sparkly vampires!
ReplyDeleteBut, about that ctrl+F thing-- I've found one thing that sorta, kinda works -- Google Books (books.google.com). Many books (though not all) have a limited preview, which you can search. Amazon's "Search inside the Book" thing is similar, and I've used both when trying to find quotes!
AGREED! Are we there yet is one of my faves and I hate cliches. I especially agree on the sparkly vampires bit:) I'm freaking sick of this vampire trend!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I never noticed until you pointed it out, but yes, why do mean girls come in groups of three?
ReplyDeleteAnd sparkly vampires is probably the one I'll disagree with. I understand people getting sick of the hype, but for me, I've always loved vampires so this does not bother me.

Did you read my Jennifer Banash interview? I asked her why mean girls come in threes. Interesting answer!
ReplyDeleteHere's the link if you didn't:

Mean girls come in threes because it's like this Trifecta or Trinity of Mean. This should be common knowledge, Khy!! :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'VE read books by David- quite a few of them, actually. Don't I get some credit?
And I do enjoy Zac Efron references, lol. He's a hottie.
BC: You get points for reading David books! :D But you lose half of them for enjoying Zac references.
ReplyDeleteLenore: I read it! But still. I don't get it. xD
Hank, your video isnt working T_T
ReplyDeleteI like David books, plus he edit for some authors I like.
I posted about this but I dont like when publishing companies decide to "update the books" by making the pop culture stuff in them more relevent. (ex changing Britney Spears to Hillary Duff), it detracts and they never manage to do it error free
THANK YOU bookchic. Zac Efron is a complete hottie. Yumyum. ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on #5. ;)
ReplyDeleteI adore the list..
ReplyDelete#5 I find interesting, because of a certain sparkly vamp I returned to reading YA...but it seems to make many people grrrrrrr
I'm right there with Ravenous Reader too. Sparkly vampires sparked my interest in all books that I've read since then. I was a come and go reader before but now I'm addicted to all books, YA and adult. I owe my returned love for books to sparkly vamps!
ReplyDeleteI read more adult urban/paranormal romances than YA so a lot of your other things do not hit home for me. I understand about the lack of eyes on covers. That's odd and I don't like it either!
Well I actually LIKE omg.
ReplyDeleteBut the rest... pretty much all agreed. Though the covers don't bother me *too* bad. Mostly.
